Captain America Art With Derwent Lightfast Colored Pencils
Captain America Art With Derwent Lightfast Colored Pencils
Derwent recently completed their 100 selection of the Lightfast colored pencil range, which I was fortunate enough to purchase and get hold of pretty much as soon as they hit the shelves. When I got them I wanted to draw something special, I wanted to try something that was going to push me from my comfort level and also show these beautiful pencils off in a good way.
I decided to draw Marvels Captain America and this was going to push me out of my comfort level because I am terrible at creating portraiture art especially with colored pencils. However I didn’t complete the drawing on my usual paper for a project of this level, Strathmore 500 Series Bristol Plate. I wanted to show the pencils of working along side other mediums such as markers, as marker and colored pencil are my two favourite mediums to use.
So the paper I used was Xpress-It Blending Card, which is absolutely fantastic for markers, but because of it’s incredibly smooth surface, I knew this project was recalling going to test the Derwent Lightfast Colored Pencils. Ordinarily colored pencil artist require a little bit of tooth to the paper they use, ever the Strathmore 500 Series Bristol Plate, despite its smooth surface, has some tooth. I have to say that the Derwent Lightfast Colored Pencils performed beautifully.
Half way through the drawing I used a few other brands of pencils here and there, just to test how the Derwent Lightfast Colored Pencils reacted to other brands and as expected the results were exceptional. I have of course completed in-depth reviews of the Derwent Lightfast Colored Pencils, which you can take a look at by following the links. This particular post was as much for myself as it was for you guys. I really wanted to draw something special with the Derwent Lightfast pencils and test them along the way. I hope you enjoy the art work of Marvel’s Captain America.
I have also completed a speed drawing of this piece which you can watch by following the link. This drawing in total took 23 hours to complete which I completed over the course of a few weeks.
