The Best Marker Pad Ive Used, Ohuhu Marker Pad Review

This is going to be quite a short written review, simply a place to add links and explain the marker pad different sizes etc, the best place to find out more about the new Ohuhu Marker Pads is The Art Gear Guide YouTube Channel. In this review we take a look at the new bleed-proof Marker Pads from Ohuhu and in particular the exceptional quality of the paper.

This review is definitely aimed for all the marker artists out there, I know myself how difficult it has been to find a decent quality marker pad over the years. A marker pad that will not bleed when a few layers of marker ink is applied and also paper that will prevent the markers from feathering. If you are new to marker art and not aware of the terms bleeding and feathering, my YouTube review is the best place to see this explained.

Marker paper traditionally has an unseen, micro thin film coating the top layer of the paper, this is to allow for the ink to sit on the paper for a few seconds without being absorbed, allowing the marker artist to move the ink and blend smooth transitions.

Sometimes marker artists who also intend applying colored pencil on top of the marker layers for detail, will often use a Bristol Smooth, Bristol Velum or even a Hot Pressed Watercolour Paper. These papers are all quite thick and the Bristol Smooth paper is perfect for markers, but with the Hot Pressed Watercolour paper, the artist has to work very fast due to the fast absorbing qualities of the paper.

However, there are very few to none sketch pads that are filled with Bristol Smooth paper, there are of Course pads, but not sketch pads, allowing the artist to keep their work contained in one place and provide an easy area of reference to the artists work.

Ohuhu Marker Pad Quality

As you can see I created a manga art character from Dragonball Z, I have to apologise to all true Manga fans because I really no nothing about all the different characters and shows etc, I just love and respect the art form and absolutely love trying to recreate it. I think the character is Goku, for those of you who may know the character from Dragonball Z that I drew, if I have his name wrong please let me know so I can rectify it.

However, the reason for completing the art work was to test the paper quality when producing a proper art project. It is all very well and good showing blending etc, which I have also done, but showing the paper quality on a full art project I think helps understand the quality of the paper better.

If you watch the YouTube video of both the artwork and blending exercises I completed, where I apply many layers and saturate the paper with ink, you will see just how amazing this paper quality really is. Absolutely nothing, not even a dot of ink came through onto the rear of the page I was working and traditionally, many marker pads will require the artist to place some form of protection under the page they are working on to stop the ink affecting the page under. This is not necessary at all with the new Ohuhu Marker Pad, I can’t tell you how impressed I was with this paper, it is absolutely amazing for marker artists.

Feathering is another issue marker artists face and if you can see the image below, I have used a sheet of printer paper to help demonstrate what feathering is. When you go close to the line work of your art, on bad quality paper or cheap paper, the ink from the marker will feather over the line work. However, the image above is the same demonstration only on the ohuhu paper and you can see there is not feathering.

This Image shows marker being applied to printer paper to show the level of bleeding

For the longest time Marker Artists have been searching of a sketch pad format medium to use their markers in, without having to provide protection under each page and this paper is exactly what they have been looking for.

Ohuhu Marker Pad Sizes and Availability

The Ohuhu Marker Pad I have on review here is the Glue Bound Bleed-Proof Ohuhu Marker Pad, there is 60 sheets in the pad and because nothing at all bleeds through that means 120 pages you can actually use. The paper is obviously ultra smooth and comes in at 90lb 150G/M2. To help you gauge this, a traditional Bristol Velum or Smooth paper is 100lb and most Hot Pressed Watercolour pads are 140lb, so you can see the paper is good and sturdy. The size of the pad I am reviewing is 9 x 12inchs or 229 x 305mm.

The other pad Ohuhu have released is a spiral bound pad which I know a lot of artists love and I have to admit I would love to try myself, each page in the spiral bound pad is also perforated making removing the page very easy. The paper weight is exactly the same as the glue bound pad above as is the number of pages, but is a little bit smaller, coming in at 10 x 7.6 inch or 254 x 193mm, it looks slightly more square to me but I can’t really comment until I try it.

The spiral bound Ohuhu Marker Pad will cost you £16 on the Ohuhu website and if you purchase any product at all from the Ohuhu website before the 21st of June 2024 and use the promo code ArtGearGuide10 you will get 10% of all your products. I do not get any commission for this, this is all just for the viewers and subscribers of The Art Gear Guide.

The Ohuhu Marker Pad I have on review is also £16 which I personally think, for 120 sheets and given the quality of the paper, this is a reasonable price for such a pad.

Ohuhu Marker Pad Conclusion

I think I have accidentally, via excitement to find such a marker pad, provided my conclusion already. I absolutely love the pad, of all the marker pads I have used thus far, of which there are a lot, this is by far the best marker pad on the market and I know this is a bold statement. I am not going to mention all the other brands I have used as The Art Gear Guide channel is not about putting other companies down, but I am more than comfortable recommending this amazing pad.

I would like to see and hopefully will see later down the line, that Ohuhu create a few more sizes, I think Id like to see some smaller pads and perhaps a landscape version of the pads as well, but this only helps to express my love for the pads. Simply clicking of the links provided will take you to the respective marker pad and from there insert the promo code ArtGearGuide10 when you go to the payment section and 10% will be taken off any Ohuhu items you purchase. Thank you all so very much for your continued support and your amazing comments both her and on The Art Gear Guide YouTube channel.
